TUSCANY WINE ESTATE

Tuscany Wine Estate

Tuscan dining

Richard and I decided to get out of Florence for a day to visit a picturesque wine estate in Tuscany. The property was called Torre A Cona. Amazingly, it was built in 1066 originally as a castle, and later changed to a country estate . Therefore, there are many buildings on the property now, to include an Enoteca, a large cellar and wine making buildings, as well as a hotel and some private villas/apartments. Torre A Cona has a large swimming (with a second on the horizon) as well a restaurant and bar area. This Tuscany wine estate is a great way to see the iconic Tuscan countryside.

Wine Making

Torre A Cona produces several types of wines, to include a white Tuscan blend, a Rose, Merlot and most importantly Sangiovese for Chianti wines. This region of Chianti falls under Chianti Colli Florentini. There are 3 different regions of Chianti wines in the Chianti region. They have 22 hectares of vineyards and are currently using 18 of them. Therefore, some are segmented out for just Sangiovese while others are used for the Merlot, Colorino and Trebbiano Toscana and Malvasia bianco for the whites.

Experiences

Beyond the obvious of wine tastings and cellar/wine making tours, Torre A Cona offers many other experiences while on property. These are to include truffle hunting, horseback riding, hiking, cooking classes, a bee experience and picnics. This property, only about 20 minutes of Florence center, offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the peace, beauty and tranquility of the rolling Tuscan countryside, with enough activities to keep you entertained on site, or is an ideal base for exploring the myriad of small villages dotting the landscape.
