THE MIGHTY MOZAMBIQUE EXPEDITION

The Mighty Mozambique Expedition

Many visitors to the southern region of Africa tend to focus on South Africa while ignoring the surrounding countries. However, this means that they are missing out on many magnificent locations and experiences. One of these is the Mighty Mozambique Expedition.

Of course, there is some reason for the hesitation. Mozambique has had a conflicted post-colonial existence, though it has steadied since 2014. Admittedly, the infrastructure of the country is not the most refined. But this only leaves the opportunity for exploration and new experiences for those who are feeling like an adventure!

In the southern reaches of the country is the capital, Maputo. This is also the region where tourism flourishes, as there are plenty of beautiful beaches. Hotels are plenty common here, giving plenty of locations to stay at and enjoy the relaxing sea. For those who want to explore rather than relax, there are lodges that allow for backpacking trips into the countryside.

The middle of the country took a hard hit during the civil war. The formerly gorgeous Gorongosa National Park lost many of its animal population. Even so, there have been attempts to restore the parks to their former glory. The animals might be gone, but nature has come back in force. Isolated away from the main tourist zones, these areas are good for those who don’t want to be crowded as they explore.

Quirimbas Archipelago

Northern Mozambique is one of the least developed areas in the country, leaving much of nature untouched.  The Quirimbas Archipelago in the north is particularly natural in appearance, allowing any visitors to see it without any sort of human interference. With the discovery of gas in Pemba, the area could become more commercialized. Hopefully, this doesn’t happen, but it might be worth it to go sooner rather than later to get a full view of the beaches.

But what about some of the other, non-viewing experiences such as food? Mozambique excels in this regard, thanks to the combination of Portuguese influence and their coastal geography. The spices used by the Portuguese (such as peri-peri) and the seafood (like tiger prawns) are a brilliant combination. Toss in the fact that these dishes tend to be quite cheap and you will have a great time at the table.

Finally, one of the biggest benefits of going to Mozambique is the sheer amount of activities there are for any visitor. Swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean, watching the various sea creatures alongside. Take a safari to one of the various national parks and see what animals have been nurtured over the past years. Relax in one of the bigger cities like Pemba or Maputo, experiencing the fun nightlife. If swimming isn’t your style, but you still love the ocean, there is a strong fishing scene available. All of this and more awaits in this fascinating coastal country.

Mozambique has had tough times, but now looks to be a country that welcomes all travelers. Taking them up on that invitation might be one of the most fun experiences available. Do you want to travel to Africa? Click HERE and set up a consultation and let’s talk.
