Kenya Bound!
I’m officially Kenya bound! My bags are packed and my camera is charged. Tomorrow I board a flight bound for Nairobi. Honestly, sleep feels impossible tonight. Few trips have made me this giddy. You’re coming along for every step, so grab a coffee.
Breakfast With the Giraffes
Let’s start with the moment I’m most excited about. Giraffe Manor sits in Nairobi’s leafy Langata neighborhood. The ivy-covered manor house dates back to the 1930s. Its most famous residents, though, have very long necks. A herd of endangered Rothschild’s giraffes roams the surrounding forest. Each morning, they wander up to the house. Then they poke their heads right through the windows. Yes, they really do expect breakfast.
I’ve seen the photos a hundred times. Nothing, I suspect, will prepare me for the real thing. Picture sipping Kenyan coffee while a giraffe nudges your plate. My plan is simple: smile, take photos, and share a few pellets.
Beyond the charm, this stay supports real conservation. Right next door, the Giraffe Centre runs breeding and education programs. Kenyan schoolchildren learn about wildlife there every year. Knowing that makes the experience even sweeter.
Lodge Hopping on Safari
After Nairobi, the real adventure begins. I’m visiting several safari lodges across Kenya. Each one offers a different landscape and personality. Some sit on private conservancies with fewer vehicles. Others overlook rivers, open plains, or busy watering holes. Seeing them in person matters to me. Photos only tell part of the story.
Inspecting a lodge means looking beyond the pretty pictures. How warm is the welcome? Do the guides truly know their stuff? Is the food memorable? Would a family feel at home here? Could a honeymoon couple find real privacy? Those details make or break a safari.
What I Hope to See
Late October is a fascinating time in Kenya. Migration herds may still linger in the Masai Mara. Many begin drifting back toward Tanzania’s Serengeti. Short rains usually arrive in early November. Green grass and moody skies could make for stunning photos.
My wish list, of course, includes the Big Five. Lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo top every safari dream. Nature keeps its own schedule, though. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Somehow that uncertainty makes every sighting feel like a gift.
I’m also craving the quieter moments. A sundowner as the sky turns orange. Coffee by the fire before a dawn game drive. The sound of lions roaring somewhere in the dark.
Why I Travel This Way
People sometimes ask why I travel so often. Truthfully, it’s the best part of my job. Firsthand experience makes me a better advisor. When I recommend a lodge, I want to know it personally. You deserve someone who has walked the paths and tasted the food. That’s how Amore Travel Designs builds trips worth remembering.
Follow Along From Kenya
Over the coming days, I’ll share highlights on Instagram and Facebook. Expect giraffe selfies, lodge peeks, and plenty of wildlife. Connectivity can be spotty in the bush, so please be patient. Every post will come straight from the heart of Kenya.
Dreaming of your own safari? Let’s talk once I’m home in Fort Collins. Until then, wish me luck with those giraffes. Something tells me they’ll steal my breakfast. Let’s chat!
