GREAT PLACES TO EAT IN FLORENCE

GREAT PLACES TO EAT IN FLORENCE

As I get closer to revisiting one of my favorite cities in the world, I thought I would share some of my great places to eat in Florence.

All’Antico Vinaio

Without doubt the best sandwich shop and a great spot to pick up your lunch is All’Antico Vinaio, tucked away on a side street it will always be busy but its well worth the wait and you can sip on a glass of wine from their streetside window while you wait. We all have our favorites here, but I loved their porchetta. Also make sure you pick the right shop, there are several competitors around that trying to benefit from the success of the original. There isn’t any space to eat in the tiny store, but there are many places close by including the river where you can take your lunch.

Bistecca alla Fiorentina

Florence is famous for its steaks and steakhouses. One of my favorite is Francesco Vini, a beautiful yet relaxed restaurant in the Santa Croce district. Everything is delicious here, not just the steaks, and I just love the roast potatoes.

Aperitivo

Aperitivo is that perfect time to grab a cocktail and some snacks. Most Mediterranean countries don’t eat their dinner time meal until later in the evening that we Americans traditionally do, and Italy is no exception. So if you are starting to feel peckish around 4-5pm and Aperitivo and antipasti are the way to go to stave off the hunger. One of our favorite spots is the Golden View Open Bar by the Ponte Vecchio. We actually went here first for dinner which was great, however it’s the perfect view of one of the oldest and most famous bridges in Florence. Ask for a table by the window to get the best view, you can find it just across the Ponte Vecchio on the south side of the Arno.

Gelato

One of the first things we do on our first day in an Italian town is to hunt down the best gelato, and here is the best in Florence. Gelateria Dei Neri. It’s so good we go there once a day (sometimes more…. shh)
