~ have been piling up faster than I expected, so I am writing this from the middle of my Regent Seven Seas cruise through Scandinavia while everything still feels fresh.
I always tell clients that research only gets you so far, and this trip has reminded me exactly why. So far I have visited Stockholm and Warnemunde, with Copenhagen and Oslo still ahead of me, and both stops have already given me stories I will be telling clients for years.
Stockholm and the Ship That Should Have Sunk
Stockholm surprised me in the best way, and the Vasa Museum is the reason why. The museum holds an entire seventeenth century warship, nearly fully intact, after it sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and sat at the bottom of the harbor for over three hundred years. Walking into that hall and seeing the actual ship rising up in front of you is one of those travel moments that photographs simply cannot capture. It is enormous, it is eerie, and it is genuinely moving to stand next to something that old and that well preserved. If you send me clients heading to Stockholm, this is going straight to the top of my recommendations.
Warnemunde and an Aperol Spritz I Did Not Expect
Warnemunde was not a stop I knew much about before this trip, and it ended up being one of my favorite surprises so far. The seaside walk along the beach promenade has that unhurried, small-town German feel, with striped beach chairs lining the sand and a genuine sense that locals actually live here year round, not just during cruise season. I stopped at a cafe along the walk for an Aperol Spritz, and there was something perfect about sitting there watching the water with absolutely nowhere to be. Small port towns like this rarely make it onto a first-time Europe itinerary, and they honestly should.
What Is Still Ahead
